




ATSC 1.0: The current mainstream standard, adopted after the US fully ceased analog broadcasting in 2009. It uses 8VSB modulation, supports 720p/1080i HD broadcasts, and operates on a 6MHz channel bandwidth.
ATSC 3.0 (NextGen TV): The next-generation standard using COFDM modulation and IP protocols. It supports 4K Ultra HD, HDR (High Dynamic Range), Dolby Atmos immersive audio, 120fps high frame rates, and interactive features (such as rewind, pause, and video on demand). As of early 2026, NextGen TV signals cover approximately 76% of US households, though ATSC 1.0 signals will continue to coexist for the foreseeable future.
Important Note: Transitioning from ATSC 1.0 to ATSC 3.0 does not require a new antenna. Any existing TV Antenna can receive NextGen TV signals.
Compact and easy to install; can be placed on a windowsill, desk, or stuck directly to a window.
Ideal for urban users living within 25 miles (approx. 40 km) of broadcast towers.
Typically priced between $10 and $40.
Common forms: Ultra-thin flat panels, Rabbit Ears, and loop antennas.
Installed inside the home's attic, offering a good balance between concealment and reception quality.
Provide stronger signals than indoor antennas and are less affected by weather conditions.
Suitable for medium-distance users (25–50 miles from towers).
Mounted on rooftops or chimneys, offering the strongest signal reception capabilities.
Ideal for suburban and rural users living over 50 miles from broadcast towers.
Higher price point and often require professional installation, but provide the most stable reception.
Divided into Directional Antennas (pointed at a single direction for higher gain) and Omnidirectional Antennas (receive from multiple directions for greater flexibility).
